Wonderfalls was Wonderful - fillionaire
Wonderfalls was Wonderful
This past weekend I finished out the series Wonderfalls, recommended to me by theamusedone, who guessed correctly that I would love it.

1. Caroline Dhavernas. For the first two discs I would shake my head at her name, wondering how to pronounce it. Then, I IMDB'd her, and lo and behold she's French Canadian. Now, her name rolls off my tounge so naturally, and I want to see everything she's done.

2. The oh so awful theme song. DH got to the point where he'd fast forward over the titles and credits. He hated that song, and I am going to find out the lyrics so I can taunt him with them when he's bugging me.

3. How all of the Tylers had rhyming names except Jaye. Totally made her an outsider and more believable as the black sheep. But if you've seen the show, you know ALL of those Tylers were just as insane as she, even though they did not have wax lions or cow creamers talking to them.

4. Speaking of Tylers, I loved her brother Aaron played by Lee Pace. I think I might have a little crush on him. Might have something to do with him looking a bit like Clive Owen...or maybe he was just so cute how he gathered up the things that were talking to Jaye and made a shrine of them.

5. I started out watching this on my own, but DH quickly came around (see #6 for reason). And when he wanted to watch it, he'd say "Let's put in a Wilby Wonderfalls". Awww.....

6. Jewel Staite. Hated her character (you HAD to) but she was so freaking cute and what a treat to see her in this. Her acryllic nails bugged, but probably because that would be so un-Kaylee-like. It was a lot more Heidi-like.

7. That Jaye lived in a trailer park. Not that this show wasn't unique enough, but a 20 something girl living in a trailer park? Loved that angle.

8. The talking animals. Yes, that is the entire concept here, but what a cool and original idea. And the animals themselves were all so unexpected. The lawn flamingos, the mounted bass on the wall, even the aplique cow on someone's apron. Oh, and the totem pole with the Aussie accent. Hilarious.

9. The setting of Niagra Falls. Who'd have thought of that? Not me. And the concept was used throughout the story. To be honest, if inanimate objects started talking to me and telling me to do crazy things, I'd have been temped to just jump over. Jaye handled it all and with some serious style. And only got arrested 3 times.

10. Good wrap up. 13 episodes in, it seems this show must have been cancelled. The last ep was pretty good for trying to wrap up a series on short notice. Something Tim Minear might be familiar with (Firefly...*woe*). It had closure, and Tim Reaper resisted the urge to kill any main characters off at the end.

In conclusion, I loved enough to buy the DVD set. It shall be added to my next Amazon order.

I absolutely *loved* wonderfalls and was so upset that they only aired 3 shows before cancellation. I actually joined the online group to help bring it back... obviously we failed. Actually, I think that nearly anyone who enjoyed the humour of Due South would like this show and I highly recommend it.

BTW, The Title track is "Wonderfalls" by Andy Partridge. If you bought the legitimate DVD set you should have a music video in the extras but for immediate annoyage I've uploaded the song here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/i802er

But of course you have that theme song. Hilarious! I'm figuring out the right time to just blast it on the speakers for DH's amusement. Or maybe annoyance. Hee!

Yeah, too bad it was cancelled. Why do they do this to such good shows and are still showing the likes of American Idol? *fumes*

Wheee! I love Wonderfalls so much pretty much for all the reasons you listed. I really wish we had more time to spend with those characters, Aaron and Mahandra were only just getting fleshed out into awesomeness. (also I reiterate my love of Lee Pace. preeeeeetty)

So true about Aaron and Mahandra...I was so loving that element...then it just ENDED. I will just have to watch it again on my shiny new DVDs when they arrive.

Ha! I thought you might just go for the show! I am so glad you liked it as much as you did! Wasn't it just a total blast? Lee Pace kicks so much ass, queue Soldier's Girl on Netflix. Really.

And someone beat me to uploading the theme song *G*.

Lee does transvestite VERY WELL. It is amazing to behold *G*. Also, him singing kd lang? One of those things that makes me oh so very happy.

And not every song, but I am working on it. I am currently uploading a set that I think might just amuse you...

Just checkin, but you don't happen to have that kd lang version of 'Helpless' by Neil Young. I heard that recently (closing credits of Away from Her, actually) and I see album on Amazon, but can't get that track separately. I might just buy the whole album, though...lots of good stuff. God, kd lang is amazing.

Are you kidding me here? Do I have kd's album of Canadian covers? *G*

I adore Wonderfalls, and hold out hope that you might tackle it next yuletide. I am not fast enough or good enough to sign up, but I can't resist telling people what I am hoping to see.

Have you watched Dead Like Me yet?
